In 1975 while reporting the imminent Indonesian invasion of East Timor, five Australian journalists, based in the town of Balibo, were killed. Although an Australian coroner ruled that they were deliberately killed by Indonesian soldiers the official Indonesian version is that the men were killed by crossfire during the battle for the town.
