The Miracle Thief
Iris Anthony

911 AD: In the darkest hour of the Dark Ages, when God often seemed silent, saints and their relics offered a touchstone to the divine. Gisela, the daughter of King Charles the Simple of France, is promised in marriage to the Viking Rollo, in exchange for the Viking submitting himself to the king. Gisela manages to make her father agree that she will only marry Rollo if he can steal a relic of Saint Catherine. If the saint sanctions the marriage, then she will allow the relic to be stolen. The king sends monks to retrieve the relic, Rollo sends henchmen, and a relic hunter follows them all.  Written in alternating points of view, this novel undertakes a journey from despair toward hope offered by the relic of a saint's finger. It asks timeless questions that reverberate with the modern soul: what do we value? What is sacred? Do miracles really happen?
